Woman arrested at JFK airport for role in revenge killing of 38-year-old man

A woman has been arrested in connection with a February shooting that left one person dead in Harlem, New York, police said.

Tynika Johnson, a 30-year-old Central Harlem resident, has been charged with second-degree murder as authorities accuse her of playing a role in the February 27 murder of Charles Buckner, even though the person who pulled the trigger is still wanted. .

According to a New York Daily News report, Buckner, 38 (pictured below) was sitting in a parked car near the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 138th Street when someone shot him in the head around 8:20 a.m. that day. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 24-year-old man who was also in the car, Buckner’s cousin, was also shot in the arm and taken to Harlem Hospital. He was treated and then fired.

Buckner’s killing was revenge for an earlier shooting in the area earlier this year that injured a man, police said. Tynika Johnson had a connection to this victim and played a role in Buckner’s murder, but the person who shot her is still at large.

Buckner was arrested at JFK Airport on Thursday, September 15 in connection with the murder.

Johnson, who lives in Harlem, was previously arrested for robbery. Buckner, who lived not far from where he was killed, had 14 arrests to his name, including for attempted murder in 1999. He may also have been involved in another non-fatal shooting in 2001, said the police.

Buckner was paroled in June 2020 after serving three years for attempted conspiracy, records show. Prior to that, he served more than two years on a weapons conviction and was paroled in December 2013.
