Two suspects arrested with human skulls in Oyo

Men from the Oyo security network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, arrested two suspects who were allegedly found in possession of human skulls in the town of Oyo.

The two suspects, Ganiyu Maruf, a native of the Laguna family in Oyo town, and Alfa Basiru Bashit of Abu Compound, Oyo; were nearly lynched by the people of Ori-awo Yidi.

During interrogation, Maruf, a mason, said that a Dauda ‘Baba Ato’, a carpenter had provided them with the skulls.

He claimed the man initially turned him down because he had already been arrested by SARS, but then asked him to pay the sum of 50,000 naira for the skulls.

Maruf said shortly after Dauda provided them with the skulls, he was arrested again by SARS agents, but was then released weeks later after confessing to his crimes.

According to his confession, he had escaped to the village but returned about two months later when he learned that Baba Ato had been released.

However, Baba Ato is said to have died the night of his release.

The suspect recounted how they hid the skulls in the area while he kept watch so they wouldn’t be stolen about five days ago.

Unbeknownst to him, residents of the Ori-Awo region where he resides had observed him patrolling where he had buried the skulls.

Alerted locals allegedly attacked Maruf and his accomplice as they made their way to Yida.

On his part, Bashit confessed to having contributed 15,000 naira to the money to obtain the skulls of Baba Ato, who is related to Maruf’s family.

When asked who was going to perform the money rituals for them, Maruf said he had the knowledge of the rituals from his maternal grandfather and would first try to do it for himself- same.
