Supreme court has the final say - Akpabio to seek redress after sack as senatorial candidate

Senator Godwill Akpabio has reacted to the Court of Appeal ruling that removed him as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Akwa Ibom North West Senate District.

In a statement he released, the former governor of Akwa Ibom state said his lawyers are studying the judgment for redress.

Akpabio called on his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, while adding that the Supreme Court has the final say.

The statement read;

“My attention has been drawn to the judgment rendered in the above appeal, in which orders were made by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw my name from their slate as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate Candidate for the Akwa lbom North West Senate District in the upcoming 2023 election.

“It is instructive to mention that I was not a party to said appeal although orders were made against me and my interest.

“Until a copy of said judgment is made available to me and any other interested party, it is important to state that I am a lawyer by training and a law-abiding citizen of this country and am bound by our laws and judgments from our courts, including the one referenced.

“My lawyers, on my advice and brief, have begun reviewing the contents of the judgment as read, for the purpose of seeking appropriate judicial relief.

“I am aware that the Supreme Court of Nigeria has the final say in these cases. I therefore urge my supporters, APC members and all my constituents to remain calm and law abiding, as they continue the campaigns for the successes of the APC in the Akwa Ibom Senate District. North West, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria in general.
