Fake landlady remanded in prison

A woman identified as Princess Helen Abang has been remanded to Suleja Detention Center by Hon. Judge KN Ogbonnaya of a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Zuba, for feigning ownership of a 2-storey building of 6 units of three-bedroom apartments.

The woman who claimed ownership of the building located at Lot 70, Rue Yaoundé, Zone Wuse 6 in the Federal Capital Territory, also rented it out without the consent of the legal owner.

The 80-year-old owner of the house, Mrs Elizabeth Ego Olejeme reportedly became aware of the trespass in 2006 and fought to reclaim the properties without success until the intruder was arrested on November 7, 2022.

A warrant has been issued for Abang’s arrest after she twice failed to appear in court.

Prosecution attorney, Abdulrasheed Sidi said;

“Defendant rented 5 other 3-bedroom apartments and used the proceeds to prevent the widow from getting the houses back since 2006.

“She illegally entered the property and remained there until she was arrested on November 7, 2022 and charged in court.

“On November 7, when the case was heard, she refused to appear, but was moving from office to office in order to defeat the case.”

Abang, who was arrested on November 7 and held by police until she was arraigned on November 22, 2022, has pleaded not guilty to the 7-count charge which was read out by the court. hon. Judge Ogbonnaya.

The judge adjourned her bail request to November 25, while trial dates on the merits have been set for December 13-15, 2022.
