A 31-year-old teacher, Idowu Daniel was sentenced to seven years in prison by a special court in Ikeja for sexually assaulting his 16-year-old student.
Ruling on the case on Monday, September 19, Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo said the prosecution failed to establish the charge of child desecration against the defendant. However, this is due to the fact that the survivor did not appear in court during the proceedings to give evidence.
Judge Taiwo, who noted that the accused’s confession statement, which was made voluntarily, showed that he had sexually assaulted the minor, added that the accused admitted to fondling the victim’s chest at twice and tried to have sex with her, but he couldn’t have a penetration because she was a virgin.
“The defendant is hereby found guilty of the charge of sexual assault of a child.
“You are a teacher and you were touching your student’s chest. You would have lost your life if the victim had come to court to testify.
