Suspected Shepherds Kidnap Retired Policeman and Motorcyclist’s Son in Edo
Gunmen believed to be shepherds abducted a Benard Omafuaire, son of former police officer Chief James Omafuaire (pictured) and another person in Edo State.
The victims were traveling from Ugbokuli Village to Ekiadolor in Ovia Northeast Local Government Area of Edo State when they were abducted on Thursday afternoon, March 23, 2023.
The kidnappers, numbering about five and armed with guns, ambushed the vehicle carrying palm products when the incident occurred.
The truck driver reportedly escaped into the bush because he jumped out of the vehicle when he saw the kidnappers.
Chief Omafuaire, who confirmed the abduction to reporters, said the kidnappers ambushed the motorbike carrying the victims and the vehicle carrying the harvested palm kernel.
“I have a palm plantation in this region and my son went there to harvest the ripe almonds. He loaded the harvested palm trees into the truck while he rode his motorbike behind the truck,” he explained.
“The driver saw the armed men in front of him and he jumped out of the truck and ran into the bush. My son and the cyclist were unaware of what was happening ahead and they met the kidnappers who took them away .
“I tried my son’s line but it’s not going through and no one contacted me. I called the control room, they said I have to make an official report to the police station in Ekiadolor .While I’m talking to you, my daughter- The in-laws are making a formal report there, I pray and hope they don’t get hurt,” the retired policeman hoped.
Edo State Police Command spokesman SP Chidi Nwabuzor said he expected a full briefing on the incident from police in the area.
