Suspected Fulani herdsmen kill guard and six others in Benue communities
Suspected Fulani herders launched separate attacks on two communities in Benue state, killing seven people, including a commander of the state’s community guard.
The armed herdsmen reportedly attacked Tse Fela in Mbabuande and Tse Akyegh in the Ikaaghev council ward of the state’s Gwer West local government around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
It came just two days after armed herdsmen invaded Tse-Lgar, Tse Magu and Tse Dudu in Guma local government, where they killed 13 people.
It has been established that the herdsmen who invaded the two communities of Gwer West simultaneously killed seven people and destroyed food banks.
According to a native who identified himself as Terna, “members of both communities had noticed strange movements of people in the area and raised the alarm, causing some people to flee.
Unfortunately, some people were trapped by the killers and they were killed.
Also confirming the attacks, the head of Ikaaghev district, Chief Adi-Bata, said the alarm raised by community members had reduced the number of casualties.
“Without the alarm raised by community members, the casualty toll would have been very high,” he said.

The traditional leader called on the security agencies to have a police station in the areas to improve security in the region.
Local government chairman Ayande Andrew confirmed the killing and said seven people had been killed.
