Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa and Chukwueze out of Algeria friendly with injury

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze have been ruled out of Nigeria’s international friendly against Algeria. The pair were replaced by Godwin Savior and Ebube Duru.

The friendly match against Algeria will take place at the Miloud Hadefi stadium in Oran on Tuesday 27 September.

“We are regrouping again for a friendly match against Algeria on September 27, 2022. Small update: Injuries (Expelled from the friendly match): Musa, Chukwueze, Balogun, Onyekuru. Subs: Ozornwafor, Godwin Savior, Ebube Duru, Dennis,” read a statement from the national team.

They become the third and fourth players to miss the encounter after the duo of Leon Balogun and Henry Onyekuru pulled out of the match due to injuries.

Musa, who made his first start for Sivasspor on Sunday in their 2-1 loss to Ankaragucu, was replaced in the 19th minute by Clinton N’Jie after fracturing his arm in the game after stretching his left hand during a duel with a defender.

“Musa’s left arm was fractured and the treatment process started immediately,” read a statement on Sivasspor’s website.

The 29-year-old is the most capped Nigerian player in history, having played 106 games since making his debut aged just 17 in 2010. He helped the Eagles win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and played for them at the last two World Cups.
