Security guards tied up as gunmen invade Anambra Catholic church

St Martin’s Catholic Church in Ihiala, Anambra State was invaded by armed men who tied up security guards after gaining access to the church premises.

Punch reported that the incident which occurred on Thursday, November 17 comes amid a series of wrangles between church authorities and some concerned citizens of the community.

Eyewitnesses told the publication that the gunmen suspected of being members of the Anambra Vigilante group were led into the church premises by two reverend fathers, one of them being the parish priest of a new parish. recently created by the bishop of the diocese of Nnewi.

The eyewitness said;

“The gunmen, who were wearing black clothes and covering their faces, tied up the security guards guarding the church and stripped them of their phones.”

The parish priest of the church, Reverend Father Val Eze, confirmed the incident, adding that the men occupied the church premises until late Thursday night.

Eze added that the invaders did not approach the residence of the priests.
