Scooby-Doo Star Velma Confirmed As Lesbian In New Animated Movie After Decades Of Sexuality Speculation
Scooby-Doo’s Velma Dinkley has finally been confirmed as a lesbian in the latest Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo animated film after decades of speculation surrounding her sexuality.
Velma is seen crushing on a new love interest named Coco Diablo in clips from the new film show.
In another clip, Velma is unable to hide her fury after Coco puts her hand on her shoulder.
It comes two years after James Gunn, who wrote the Scooby-Doo live-action films, revealed he wrote Velma as “explicitly gay” before it was “watered down” by the studio and eventually deleted.
Tony Cervone, supervising producer of the Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Incorporated series, also previously specified, Velma was intended to be gay.
“I’ve said it before but Velma in ‘Mystery Incorporated’ isn’t bi. She’s gay,’ he wrote on Instagram in 2020. ‘We always expected Velma to act a little off of her character when she was dating Shaggy because this relationship was not good for her and she had unspoken difficulties with the why.
“There are clues as to why this episode with the mermaid, and if you follow the whole arc of Marcie, it seems as clear as we could make it 10 years ago. I don’t think Marcie and Velma had time to act on their feelings during the main timeline, but after the reset they are a couple. You may not like it, but that was our intention.
