Release of Nnamdi Kanu necessary for peace in the southeast
Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has pleaded with President-elect Bola Tinubu to secure the release of IPOB chief Nnamdi Kanu when he takes office on May 29.
The governor made the call in a congratulatory message he sent to Tinubu for his victory in the February 25 presidential election.
In a statement released, Soludo said Anambra is ready to work with the federal government to achieve a high level of development in its state.
“Let me also congratulate the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his election. Nigeria is the winner, and I am convinced that a better future awaits us, congratulations to all Nigerians. We are committed to collaborating and partnering with you and the Federal Government for the development of Anambra State and Nigeria. This is the only country we call ours and we have to make it work,” he said.
Regarding Kanu, Governor Soludo said Tinubu should release Kanu as he is a crucial player in achieving lasting peace in the South East region.
“In this regard, may I repeat my previous appeals and hereby request our President-elect to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu immediately upon taking the oath (i.e. if he is not released before then). We need him around the table as an important stakeholder in discussions about healing and lasting peace in the Southeast. Elections and partisan politics are over, and we should all now devote 100% of our time to ensuring good governance for our people,” he said.
