Ramadan begins on Thursday - Sultan of Sokoto says

The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar confirmed the sighting of the new crescent, marking the start of Ramadan 1444AH.

The Sultan revealed this in a live broadcast on Wednesday evening March 22, calling on Muslims to pray for Nigeria during the holy month.

“Today Wednesday, the 29th day of Shaaban 1444 AH, which equals March 22, 2023 marks the end of the month of Shaaban.

After receiving reports of moon sightings from Muslim leaders and organizations across our great country, which have been duly authenticated and verified by state and national moon sighting committees, by therefore tomorrow Thursday, March 23, 2023 becomes the first day of Ramadan 1444 AH. We therefore called on all Muslims to start fasting accordingly.

As we have just concluded the 2023 general elections, leaders have emerged at the national and state levels by the will of Allah. We therefore called on all Muslims to use this holy month for additional prayers for their successes in leading the affairs of our great country,” the Sultan said.
