Polygamy is part of our culture and makes me complete - says 77-year-old man with 7 wives and 30 children

A 77-year-old Kenyan man, Andrew Ouma, has revealed that he is married to seven wives.

In an interview with Tuko.co.ke, Ouma revealed that he first married in 1966, when he was 18.

“After 11 years I married a second, and after seven years I had a third and continued to marry until the seventh,” he said.

The Kisumu polygamist is blessed with 30 children, 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He claimed that marrying more than one wife was a way of honoring his mother.

“Marrying multiple wives is part of our culture and makes me competitive,” he said.

Ouma revealed that his wives were neighbors and his mother approved of marrying them

He revealed that he has so far built houses for four of his wives and is currently building houses for the remaining three women. He also offered them a plot of land each.

Ouma revealed that he was born into a polygamous family and his mother was the sixth wife. He is often criticized for being polygamous but doesn’t care.

Ouma, who is a farmer, said his wish is to see his grandchildren study, although he said they face the problem of hunger.

The father of 30 children has turned to a marriage counselor and is helping people in his area.
