Police officers shot dead at INEC collection center in Taraba State
Two police officers were killed in a clash between soldiers and police at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Consolidation Center in Jalingo, capital of Taraba State, on Monday, March 20.
Two police officers were also injured after the a minor disagreement between soldiers and police officers guarding INEC headquarters in the state snowballed into a crisis that lasted nearly an hour.
Sources told the Daily Trust that selders who dismissed police officers from the INEC assembly center, then invaded the police headquarters and chased the police officers on duty.
The injured officers are currently being treated at Jalingo Federal Medical Center. VVehicles parked inside the police headquarters were reportedly vandalized during the incident.
Speaking at a joint press conference, State Police Commissioner Suleiman Amodu said a high-level investigative committee would be set up to establish the cause of the incident.
