Police arrest woman for chaining stepson over witchcraft allegation

Bayelsa State Police Command arrested a woman identified as Peremoboere Botu, for chaining her 9-year-old son-in-law identified as Godday Simon Aprebo to a post on the allegation of being a witch.

The lady who was arrested by officers from Ekeki Police Division, had accused the boy of using voodoo against his family, causing misfortunes to his father and also trying to kill him.

The incident reportedly happened on Agboli Street in the Okutukutu area of ​​the Yenagoa local government area of ​​the state.

Neighbors told reporters that the victim’s stepmother and biological father chained him up to prevent him from running away, alleging he was a witch. They also subjected him to a series of punishments to force him to confess the alleged witchcraft.

Daily Trust reported that the boy’s father identified as Simon Afrebo, considered a prophet, has since fled.

Bayelsa State Police spokesman SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said a low-key investigation was underway.
