Plateau State Police Command arrested the woman who allegedly torture an 11-year-old girl, Margaret Joshua, to death in Jos.
Command spokesman Alfred Alabo confirmed the development to reporters in a statement on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
The PPRO said the suspect, mother-of-two and microbiologist at the Vom Plateau National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Ms Nnamaka Nwachukwu, forced the minor to sit in a bowl of hot water, which caused him serious injuries to his buttocks. and private part.
The suspect, who resides in K-Vom, Jos south LGA, allegedly inflicted injuries on the minor’s body until she died from torture.
The victim is believed to be from Kebbi State, who fled her community due to insecurity and was brought to Jos by an alleged aide who gave her as a maid to the suspect.
The suspect reportedly constantly beat the minor and refused to enroll her in school when he had promised to enroll the victim.
The police spokesman said the case was currently being investigated, adding that the suspect would soon be brought to justice.
Grace Pam, coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Plateau, which has been following the case, said the wounds on the minor’s body showed that she had been tortured.
The suspect claimed the girl fell into the bowl of hot water on her own and fled the house without knowing where she was for more than 24 hours.

“Our attention was drawn to the situation on Monday, by a staff member at Jos University Hospital (JUTH), who said an 11-year-old girl had been seriously beaten and injured by her guardian,” said Pam.
“Upon arriving at the hospital, we saw several old and new scars, and wounds all over her body. We were told that she had been taken to Mandela Hospital in K-Vom, but had was referred to JUTH due to the severity of her injuries.
“When we met the suspect at the police station where she was initially detained, she claimed that the girl used to masturbate, and so she beat her to punish her and get her arrested.
“She claimed she didn’t know what happened to her each time she beat the girl because she regretted it soon after the act.
“The suspect also claimed that the deceased fell into hot water, after which she ran out of the house and did not return for nearly 24 hours.”
Also commenting on the matter, Keneng John, a neighbor of the suspect, said it was not the first time the minor had been tortured by her guardian, adding that they had reported the matter to the police several times.
John added that the suspect had been instructed by the police to return the minor several times, but she had refused.
