A 40-year-old suspected kidnapper says peer influence and greed drove him to kidnapping. The man said this during a parade at the police command headquarters in Ibadan on Tuesday, September 20.
The alleged kidnapper was paraded alongside 22 others for alleged offenses ranging from kidnapping, murder, theft and defilement.
When questioned, the suspect said he ventured into a kidnapping this year and had completed five successful operations and earned a total sum of N31 million from the kidnapping operations.
“We do not undertake to collect information on our victims. We go out and kidnap anyone we find using an expensive car and we suspect has money.
I was arrested by the police in a hotel after a kidnapping operation. I really regret my action and advise anyone doing wrong to stop as there is no benefit to it.
Peer influence and greed drove me to kidnapping,” he said.
Speaking to reporters, State Police Command spokesman SP Adewale Osifeso said items recovered from the suspect and his accomplice included: two pump-action shotguns and three live ammunition.
The other items were a Mercedes Benz ML-350 SUV, a Toyota Corolla car, the N2.5 million ransom collected from the victims and six additional vehicles.
