Peacekeeper stabbed to death in Ondo
Police in Ondo State arrested a 23-year-old man, Abidemi Oguntuyi, for stabbing his 40-year-old housemate, Abiye Friday, to death in an attempt to broker ‘peace’ in Ibaka neighborhoods, in Akungba. -Akoko Council area of Ondo State.
According to reports, the suspect stabbed Abiye in the neck and other parts of his body, as he interfered in a quarrel between the victim and his brother.
An eyewitness who confirmed this to the new ones said
“The argument escalated into a fight and in the process the suspect took a knife and stabbed Abiye several times in the neck and chest. Neighbors rushed her to a nearby hospital in the area where she was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been arraigned in Akure Magistrate’s Court on two counts of murder and attempted murder. Police prosecutor Simon Wada asked the court to remand the accused in Olokuta prison pending the opinion of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Trial magistrate DS Sekoni later ordered that the accused be held in custody pending a decision on the request for remand and adjourned the case until October 7, 2022.
