The Oyo Mesi Traditional Council has announced that 65 candidates will advance to the next selection process for the Alaafin Stool after being cleared.
Oyo’s Regent and Basorun, Chief Yusuf Ayoola, revealed on Sunday September
The Basorun reportedly said in a statement issued by Oyo’s Alaafin Media and Publicity Director, Bode Durojaiye, that the remaining process would no longer be limited to the 10 previously shortlisted candidates.
They will now proceed with the Ifa consultation and whoever will emerge among the aspirants will be the candidate and the next Alaafin of Oyo.
The statement read;
“All the candidates who appeared for the interview are qualified for the next level, which is the Ifa consultation, after the Oyo Mesi members meeting.
“Whoever emerges among the aspirants will be the candidate and the next Alaafin of Oyo.
“There is no cleavage between the members of Oyo Mesi contrary to the insinuations and misinformation circulating. We are more united than ever. A misunderstanding can arise at any time. It is natural. What is important is the amicable resolution so as not to let the misunderstanding degenerate into violence.
“None of the members of Oyo Mesi has a favorite contender because all the candidates are equal before us. For the umpteenth time, we are conscientious, not money-minded and greedy.
