One soldier killed and three others injured as bandits attack Kaduna village
Bandits shot and killed a soldier in an exchange of gunfire in Akoti village, near Kagarko town, Kaduna state.
According to the Daily Trust, three other soldiers and a civilian were injured in the attack.
A resident, Yahaya Ubaidu, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said it happened around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, when soldiers engaged bandits in Akoti, one kilometer from Kagarko town .
He said the soldiers were alerted after the bandits stole more than 100 cows from nearby Kasangwai village and drove through Akoti village. The soldiers arrived and a shootout ensued.
He explained that the soldiers who came to the village of Akoti in two armed trucks were caught off guard when the bandits opened fire, killing one and wounding three others in the process.
“One of the villagers who was trying to flee was hit by a stray bullet from the bandits and he is currently being treated at University Hospital Abuja (UATH) in Gwagwalada.” he said.
The victim, seen with bandages on his waist and stomach, said the bandits who overpowered the soldiers, set fire to one of the soldiers’ armed trucks and escaped with the cows.
The Janjala Madaki, Samaila Babangida, confirmed the incident.
“According to the information I received this morning, the soldiers came from Kaduna to evacuate the three wounded soldiers and the body of the one who was killed.” he said.
