NSCDC Discovers Fenced Dump Site Used to Store Crude Oil and Illegally Refined Petroleum Products
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command discovered a fenced landfill of ten plots used to store stolen crude oil and illegally refined petroleum products in the community of Agbada, in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Four people, including the caretaker and supervisor, were arrested at the landfill site, which has 170 industrial surface tanks of 1,000 liters each and two metal storage tanks with a capacity of approximately 5,500 liters.
The site would be less than two kilometers from the Agbada flow station operated by Heirs Oil and Gas.
NSCDC State Commander Michael Ogar, who led command staff and journalists to the dump site, said the premises were discovered by the command’s anti-vandal unit following credible information .
Channels Television reported that Ogar had expressed concern about the dumpsite’s proximity to the Agbada outlet station, adding that a thorough investigation had been launched into the illegal trade.
He also said that any building or site where illegal oil bunkering activity is discovered will be sealed off by the Corps and then confiscated for the benefit of the federal government.
When questioned by reporters, the arrested suspects denied any involvement in the theft of crude oil. They claimed they were doing real business on the site.
