Eleven suspects were arrested by the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps for trafficking in adulterated diesel.
The suspects were arrested in Iju Osun community, Irele local government area in the early hours of Sunday, September 11.
Some of them have been identified as Rapheal Daniel, 35; Aufure Amtaghan, 30; Gbelebu Micheal, 40; Famous Godwin, 24; Famous Ojujoh 25; François Pérès, 29 years old; Thorbe Tholesaime, 30, and Thankgod Sowe, 30.
Corps Commander Dr. Hammed Abodunrin said;
“Eleven suspects were apprehended in Iju Osun. Items recovered from them include four wooden boats containing unquantified adulterated petroleum products concealed in cellophane bags, jerry cans containing suspected adulterated automotive gas oil (diesel) while one of the canoes was used as a dump vessel with petrol.
“We also picked up five-speed boat motors, 40 horsepower Yamaha motors, 30 horsepower Yamaha motors, 9.9 horsepower Yamaha motors and 6 horsepower Yamaha motors.
“It’s a renewed fight against oil theft and economic sabotage. The federal government cannot afford to lose the country’s resources to a few who think they can continue their sabotage, putting us in trouble from time to time.
“Citizens need to be vigilant, they need to report strange movements in their communities quickly and together we can all save our common wealth.”
Abodunrin added that the suspects would soon appear in court as soon as the investigation is completed.
