Northern Christian elders accuse APC of ‘using money to divide Christians’
The Northern States Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of using “monetary incentives” to sow division among northern Christians.
The forum alleged that the APC is taking such action in an attempt to counter the position of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on the ruling party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ejoga Inalegwu, chairman of NOSCEF, called on Christians to beware of politicians’ antics ahead of the 2023 elections.
“In 2011, Bola Ahmed Tinubu applied for a Muslim-Muslim ticket with Atiku Abubakar and it was rejected. In 2015, he (Tinubu) again applied for a Muslim-Muslim ticket with President Muhammadu Buhari and he was again rejected.
Atiku and Muhammadu Buhari from the North know that having a Muslim from the South would not have added any electoral advantage. In December 2021, Bola Ahmed Tinubu met a group in Abuja and sold the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
We warned that every patriotic presidential aspirant should avoid the same ticket of faith to avoid further polarization of the nation along religious lines.
Because there was a long-term goal and purpose to accomplish, APC forged ahead with the one-faith enterprise, aiming to ride on the wings of divisive religious politics toward victoire.
The NOSCEF is concerned that in addition to the failure of the architects of the single denominational ticket to cause serious division in the upcoming elections, the APC has resorted to clandestine means to cause division in the body of Christ. , by recruiting previously unknown bodies into the Body of Christ to counter the decisions made by the umbrella body, the CAN and its various organs.
The NOSCEF chairman called on Christian and Muslim worshipers to “disappoint” politicians “who seek to capitalize on religious differences to gain political power”.
“The NOSCEF has argued that we should not come to this stage and that those responsible should take responsibility, rather than causing further division, just to win an election.
The church is called to be circumspect, alert to the antics of politicians. Do not sell the church or be used to cause disaffection, remember that earthly position and wealth mean nothing before the Almighty, before whom we will stand.
