Former Presidential Amnesty Program (PAP) activists have vowed to halt presidential campaigns of any political party in the Niger Delta region due to their unpaid allowances.

The ex-militants who staged a protest at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Secretariat in Yenagoa against the debarment of 2,952 beneficiaries and the Amnesty Bureau’s refusal to pay them the monthly stipends of N65,000 per month, threatened to leading a protest for occupation of the PAP office in Abuja and tactical disruption of presidential campaigns of political parties in the nine states of the Niger Delta region.

Daily Trust reported that the former activists said the Amnesty Office’s refusal to reinstate the 2,952 affected beneficiaries and immediately pay them their allowances would create tension in the region.

The National Chairman of Amnesty Program Phase Two Beneficiaries, Aso Tambo, also gave the Amnesty Office a one-week ultimatum to begin immediate payment of those removed from the payroll of the program.

Tambo added that despite the achievements recorded by the Acting Administrator, Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (Retired) in the area of ​​security engagement of the Chief of Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in In the area of ​​employment for the beneficiaries, the refusal to pay the 2,952 beneficiaries will cause tensions and destroy the fragile peace that reigns in the region.

He said;

“We all came together and adopted our strategy against the Amnesty Office’s refusal to pay 2,952 beneficiaries. We want them to pay those affected within a week, otherwise we will mobilize and occupy the presidential amnesty office strategically. If he is still not paid, we will not allow the peaceful conduct of presidential campaigns in the nine states of the Niger Delta region.
