NDLEA arrests couple with 273 bags of cannabis in Ogun
National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA officers have arrested a couple, Mr and Mrs Jesutofunmi Solomon, for drug trafficking in Ogun State.
Command Spokesperson Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday, November 13, said officers raided a warehouse in the Ogere neighborhood of Ikene LGA in the state in the early hours of Saturday, November 12, where they seized 273 giant bags of cannabis sativa weighing 3,533 kilograms (3.533 tons) from a couple.
This follows the seizure of 176kg of C/S at Ogere trailer park on Wednesday November 9 and the destruction of 15 hectares of cannabis plantation in the Gbamgbam area of the state.
In the same vein, Osun State agents raided a cannabis plantation at the Obada sawmill, Owena Ijesa in Oriade LGA, where they destroyed 1.2 hectares, recovered 2,823 kg of C/S transformed and arrested 13 suspects on Sunday November 6th.
In Ondo, officers seized 78 kg of cannabis from a dealer, Beauty Godwin in Ofosu along the Benin-Ore expressway, and an additional 264 kg from Abdul Rasheed Mohammed and Abdul Rasheed Haruna at Sanusi Camp 2 in Owo, while that in Rivers State, Anti-Narcotics Agency agents arrested Damion Onuoha during a raid in Elele Alimini Community, Emuoha LGA where he was found with 1.6 kg of methamphetamine as well as a monetary exhibit in the amount of six hundred fifty thousand seven hundred naira (N650,700.00).
A joint operation with the army in Habour Road, Port Harcourt City also led to the arrest of Sandra David and the seizure of various quantities of cocaine and heroin as well as two million fifty five thousand seven hundred and fifty naira ( N2,055,750.00) cash exposure of his house.
In Edo State, officers located and destroyed 10 clusters of cannabis sativa farms measuring 14 hectares in Igwalor Forest, Uhunmwonde LGA, where five bags of processed C/S weighing 47.7 kg were recovered , while a raid in the village of Obadan, in the same LGA also led to the recovery of 11 bags of cannabis sativa seeds weighing 399kgs and 34 bags of processed substance weighing 431kgs, bringing the total weight to 830kgs. Two suspects: Enododia Sunday and Osayaba Paul were arrested at the scene.
While congratulating the officers and men of the Agency’s Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Rivers and Edo commands on the successful operations of the past week, NDLEA Chairman Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa urged them and their counterparts across the country to step up the pressure on drug lords and cartels.
