Muslim-Muslim post: “My children and my wife are Christians”
All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Senator Bola Tinubu has said his wife and children are Christians, dismissing claims that he has no regard for Christians.
Tinubu chose Senator Kashim Shettima, a fellow Muslim, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election, sparking controversy.
In an interactive session with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Wednesday, November 16, Tinubu dismissed those who portrayed him as a religious fanatic, saying Shettima’s choice had nothing to do with religion.
“I have never driven people out of Lagos or made them feel unwanted. Under my administration, Lagos welcomed all comers and continues to do so today. After me, Lagos had a Muslim governor and two Christians. I may not be perfect. What is the human being? But I am not a little man secretly married to prejudices and secret prejudices. Tinubu said
“The rumor that this is a plot to suppress the Christian community is false and unfortunate. I can no more remove Christians from this nation than I can remove Christians from my own home, even my family. You all know that my wife is a Christian and a pastor. My children are Christians. I can no more deny them and their choice of faith than I can deny myself. As a husband and father of a Christian wife and children, hearing such allegations is hurtful. However, this individual discomfort will not deter me from the work at hand. »
