Man arrested for kidnapping his stepson and demanding a ransom from his wife
An 8-year-old boy who was abducted by his stepfather has been rescued by officers from Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
DCI said the boy’s distraught mother, Everline Nandera, reported his “disappearance” to Embakasi police station, adding that her husband identified as Nemwel Ondari, 32, left her a note asking for 50,000 Ksh in ransom to free the miner.
She also revealed that he threatened to kill the boy if she delayed paying said ransom.
The DCI report said;
“Nandera told detectives that she left her home in Tel Aviv’s Embakasi neighborhood at dawn, heading for Muthurwa market. But when she returned around 9:20 a.m., she found her husband and son missing.
“A note had been left by husband Nemwel Ondari, 32, demanding a ransom of 50,000 shillings for the release of the boy. In the note, the man also warned his wife that he would kill the boy using of a kitchen knife, which he had been carrying, should she try a monkey business.
After security guards embarked on a rescue mission, the suspect was arrested at the matatu terminus of NMS Green Park, off Haile Sellasie Avenue in Nairobi.
The report added;
“Immediately, the woman filed her report at Embakasi Police Station, detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) based in the DCI Nairobi area were assembled and a hunt for man for the suspect was launched.
“Detectives assisted by their Embakasi counterparts tracked down the suspect and arrested him at the matatu terminus of NMS Green Park off Haile Sellasie Avenue, a few hours later as he waited impatiently for the ransom to be deposited on his Mpesa account.”
A preliminary investigation established that the couple had engaged in a heated disagreement the previous night leading up to the incident.
