Man, 51, sentenced to life imprisonment for raping colleague’s 9-year-old daughter in Lagos
The Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday, March 23, 2023 sentenced a 51-year-old public service officer, Ubregbo Parmer, to life imprisonment for desecrating his colleague’s 9-year-old daughter.
The convict committed the offense on December 10, 2019, at his office in Magodo, Lagos.
Judge Abiola Soladoye found that the prosecution had sufficiently proved the defilement charge against the convicted.
“The depositions of the respective prosecution witnesses established the ingredients of the offense against the accused, who was correctly identified by the survivor.
The survivor gave a vivid and bloody account of her ordeal at the hands of the defendant,” the judge said.
“I find him guilty of the count of defilement and he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment. The accused shall have his name entered in the Sex Offenses Registry maintained by Lagos State,” added the judge.
The judge further reprimanded the survivor’s mother for being negligent in her care and allowing her child to be taken away by her male colleague without supervision.
“The need for proper and good parentage cannot be undermined at this age and time when defilement and rape are the order of the day. Parents should be aware of their responsibilities,” the judge said.
State attorney Olufunke Adegoke presented two witnesses and two exhibits during the trial, while the accused testified as the only witness in the case.
Ms Adegoke claimed the survivor’s mother brought her daughter into the office and left her to do other things when the convict quickly took off his pants and had sex with her.
