Lawyer for PSG star Achraf Hakimi insists allegation he raped a woman at his home is ‘false’
Achraf Hakimi’s lawyer has claimed a rape allegation against the Paris Saint-Germain star was ‘false’.
On Monday February 27, a 24-year-old woman accused the Moroccan international, 24, of raping her at his home in the Paris suburbs on February 25.
French prosecutors are said to have opened a preliminary investigation into this allegation.
According to a source, confirming an article in the newspaper Le Parisien, the woman reported the incident to a police station on Sunday but did not file a complaint.
Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, said: “The accusations are false. He is calm and makes himself available to the authorities.
“The club supports the player, who has firmly denied the charges and trusts in justice,” PSG said in a statement. “Paris St-Germain is an institution that promotes respect on and off the pitch.”
The prosecution in charge of the case in Nanterre, in the western suburbs of Paris, declined to comment.
However, they complained that “information already made public” in the media “undermines the investigations necessary to discover the truth”.
The report detailing the charges claims that Hakimi was only informed of the opening of the investigation 90 minutes before the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris on Monday evening.
He was honored at the ceremony, where he was named to the FIFPro Men’s World Team of the Year.
