LaLiga have condemned the racist abuse of Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr by Atletico Madrid fans on Sunday, September 19.

The Brazilian striker was subjected to vile ‘monkey’ chants by Atletico fans before and during the game, with one also shockingly holding a racist doll outside the ground before the Madrid derby on Sunday, which Los Blancos won 2-1.

LaLiga condemns racist abuse directed at Vinicius Jr after Real Madrid star called ‘monkey’; vows to work with the police to bring the perpetrators to justice

LaLiga have now spoken out against what they called ‘hate speech’, insisting they will work with the police to bring the perpetrators to justice for their crimes.

A LaLiga spokesperson said: “We report all incidents inside and outside the stadiums. We work with the clubs to keep our football friendly and enjoyable.

“Hate speech has no place in La Liga and we are always working with clubs and the authorities to identify and bring such a case to justice.”

After the match, 14-cap international Vinicius reveled in his side’s victory, posting the lyrics to a chant mocking Atletico online.

In response to a fan who tweeted ‘Perdiendo las finaaleeeeees…’ (losing the final), Vinicius said: ‘Contra nuestro Real’ (against our Real) before adding in a separate tweet ‘y todo sigue igual. ..’ (and everything stays the same).

The full Real Madrid chant is: “The years go by, And everything stays the same, Lose the final, Against our Real, No matter what they say, They’ll never forget it, They cried in Lisbon, They cried in Milan, Real Madrid, come on!’

This translates in English to: “The years pass, and everything remains the same, losing the final, against our Real, No matter what they say, they will never forget, They cried in Lisbon, They cried in Milan .”

Agent Pedro Bravo had caused huge controversy when he accused Vinicius of ‘playing the monkey’ on Spanish TV because of his dancing to celebrate his goals. Bravo has since apologized for his comments on Twitter.

His Friday tweet read: “I want to clarify that the phrase ‘playing monkey’ which I misused to refer to Vinicius’ goal celebration dance was done metaphorically (‘doing stupid things’). Like my intention was not to offend anyone, I sincerely apologize. I’m sorry!’
