Labor Party member arrested in Anambra and transferred to Abuja has been arrested for cyberstalking
Nigerian Police confirmed the arrest of Labor Party member, Chude Franklin Nnamdi with the Twitter account ‘@chude__’.
A statement by Spokesperson for the Police Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, says Chude was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State on March 18, 2023, and is being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Center (NPF-NCCC) Abuja, for cyberstalking.
Adejobi said an investigation had been opened following a complaint received via a petition regarding his social media activities which contravene the provisions of Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) and other criminal laws. However, he did not mention the petitioner.
”A prima facie case was established against him while the case was forwarded to the Force’s legal department for further action. The Nigerian Police therefore urges members of the public to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the law and know the penalties for violations, especially cybercrime laws with emerging trends in the digital media space. ”
