Kano police detain elected member Aliyu Madaki for brandishing a weapon during a rally
Kano Police Command arrested an elected member representing Dala Federal Constituency of Kano State on the platform of New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Aliyu Madaki.
Madaki honored an invitation from the police on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, after his photo went viral wielding a pump gun at a comeback rally of NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has surfaced online.
Command spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the development in a statement, said Madaki is currently at the state CID to be investigated.
“Today, March 1, 2023, Kano State Police Command under the leadership of CP Muhammad Yakubu invited Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki, elected member of Dala Federal Constituency for alleged illegal possession of a firearm. He is currently at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Kano State Police Command, and is under investigation,” the PPRO said.
Remember that thugs had attacked the procession of the NNPP presidential candidate along Zaria Road, Kano on February 23 during the grand finale of his presidential campaign, and Mr Madaki is said to have led a crackdown on thugs.
The incident led to the arrest of ruling APC chairpersons of Ungogo and Rimingado local government areas in Kano State, Abdullahi Ramat and Munir Dahiru respectively. with pistols by joint security officers.
Police then paraded 85 arrested thugs alongside the presidents in the clash, but released the local government presidents without filing charges against them.
