IVD indicted for the death of his wife, Bimbo
The car dealer, Ikechukwu Ogbonna popularly known as IVD was brought before Judge Nicole-Clay of a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Monday March 20 for the alleged manslaughter of his late wife Abimbola, who died in a fire at their residence in the Lekki area of the state in October 2022.
The Lagos State Government sued IVD on one count of manslaughter in Case No. LD/21055C/23. When the case resumed on Monday, March 20, the prosecutor, Adeshola Bello, told the court that there had been confusion in the date on which the alleged offense was committed.
“We recorded October 10, but the date was October 12,” Bello said.
The prosecution lawyer then urged the court to grant the prosecution permission to allow him to make an amendment, which the court granted. He told the court that the alleged offense contravened Section 229 of the Lagos State Criminal Act, 2015.
When the charges were read to him, IVD pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Victor Ogunde, SAN, requested the accused’s release on bail. While applying for bail for the accused, the judge questioned why he was applying for bail despite the fact that the accused had been out on bail since March 1. The defense attorney replied that the lawsuit against his client had a different charge number.
As a result, Judge Nicole-Clay adjourned the case until March 30, May 24 and 25, 2023, for the start of the trial.
