“It was probably the hardest time of my life”

Cristiano Ronaldo has described the death of his newborn son as the “worst moment” of his life.

Portugal captain and partner Georgina Rodriguez, 28, has tragically revealed that their newborn son, named Angél, died during childbirth on April 18, but his twin daughter Bella survived.

“Probably the worst time I’ve had in my life since my dad died,” Ronaldo told Morgan in the final clip shared from his TalkTV interview, which will air in full on Wednesday and Thursday.

“When you have a child you expect everything to be normal and when you have a problem it is difficult.

‘Me and Gio (Georgina) had a tough time. It was very, very difficult to understand what was going on at that time in my life.

“Football doesn’t stop, we had many competitions. It was probably the hardest time of my life.

Ronaldo added that he kept Angél’s ashes near those of his father, who died of liver failure in 2005, in a chapel in his home.

“I talk to them all the time and they are on my side,” he added, in quotes carried by the Sun.

“You know they help me be a better man, be a better person, be a better father.

“And that’s something I’m really proud of…the message they send to me, especially my son.”

Ronaldo then revealed how he cried alongside his eldest, Cristiano Jnr, as he broke the news of Angél’s death to the other children.

“The kids start saying ‘where’s the other baby, where’s the other baby?

He said he cried with his eldest son Cristiano Jr, 12, as he told him about Ángel’s death in his bedroom.

However, five-year-old Eva and Mateo and four-year-old Alana Martina took longer to process the news.

Ronaldo explained that he told them after about a week that Ángel had gone to heaven after asking where the baby was.

After the loss of their baby, Angel is still a part of their lives. He explained that the children will say that they have done things for him and point to the sky.

Ronaldo added that he told his children the truth and would not lie to them, which he described as a “difficult process”.

He also believes the trauma of losing his newborn son brought him closer to his girlfriend.

He added that they had had a hard time but realized that they also had to be happy because of their other children and having Bella.

Ronaldo explained that he never expected to be happy and sad at the same time, something he said was hard to explain and crazy.

Describing the situation as “so difficult”, he went on to say he didn’t know what to do and couldn’t define how he felt when he lost his baby.

But he added that their baby Bella, the other twin, who is now six months old, is a beautiful and spectacular girl and they are very proud of her.

Along with their youngest child Bella, Rodriguez shares three-year-old daughter Alana with Ronaldo.

Ronaldo had a lengthy encounter with Morgan in an interview which will air in two parts on Wednesday and Thursday.

Earlier in the week, Ronaldo accused Manchester United of doubting his daughter Bella was ill in hospital when he told them that was the reason he returned late for pre-season training this summer.

Ronaldo also alleged Red Devils officials ‘didn’t believe anything was wrong’ when he returned late for pre-season and blamed it on his baby girl’s illness.
