INEC identifies 2.7 million unqualified registered voters in Kano

About 2,780,756 unqualified registered voters were discovered in Kano by the Independent National Election Commission.

The new Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano, Zango Abdu, revealed this during a meeting with members of electoral stakeholders on Thursday, November 17.

Zango also disclosed that 12,298,944 Nigerians have successfully registered as new voters.

He said;

“The preliminary voter register in Kano State currently stands at 5,927,565.

“This is a preliminary as Section 19(1) and (2) of the Electoral Act 2022 requires the Commission to post the hard copies of the voter register for each registration area (ward) and area of local government (and simultaneously publishes the entire register on the Commission’s website) for a period of two weeks for review, complaints and objections, by citizens no later than 90 days before a general election.

Reiterating that there is no turning back on the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System for voter accreditation and the transmission of results to the INEC Results Viewing Portal on Election Day, Zango added that the commission, in accordance with the law, would continue to monitor the activities of political parties, as well as follow the campaign finances of all political parties, as provided for in Articles 83, 85, 87, 88, 90, 91. , 92 and 95 of the electoral law of 2022.
