Native doctor slaughters mad man during treatment in Adamawa

Adamawa State Police arrested a 48-year-old indigenous doctor identified as Ezekiel Buba, for allegedly killing a mentally handicapped man identified as Alamisa, who was brought to him for treatment in Gombiyel in the local government area of State Shelleng.

Buba who was paraded before reporters by the police on Thursday March 23, accused a demon of slaughtering the deceased. He said the deceased, who suffered from mental illness and epilepsy, was brought to him by his elder brother, Yahaya Musa from Kambillam, along with other family members for treatment. Buba said he had previously tested the deceased and found he had gone mentally derailed, but had no chickens to slaughter at the time to offer a sacrifice for the man to recover.

“I usually slaughter chickens to sacrifice to a blood demon to prevent it from tormenting anyone. Without sacrificing to the demon, a patient cannot recover.” Buba said

He went on to state that while performing rituals with a robe in his garden, the demon descended in a whirlwind with knives strapped to his leg and slit the patient’s throat.

“I saw the demon in the whirlwind but before I could reach the place where the patient is lying to protect him, the demon took me and shot him. I was waiting for the market day to buy the chickens to sacrifice them as requested.” he said

He added that family members of the deceased did not see the demon while descending on the scene to kill Alamisa, saying he was the only one who saw it and rushed to prevent it, but in vain. According to him, he normally communicates with the demon he inherited from his grandmother when he slept at night in Koma Damti dialect in Jada LGA, claiming that he used it to heal people in order to earn a living.

For his part, an elder brother of the deceased, Yahaya Musa, blamed the native doctor for having murdered his brother, saying that he was the one who massacred his brother and slit his throat.

Confirming the incident, State Police Command spokesman SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje said the suspect had been apprehended in connection with the crime and was being investigated.
