Gunmen kidnap Governor Akeredolu

Gunmen suspected of being kidnappers abducted Richard Omosehin, a former senior special assistant to Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The gunmen were found to have invaded Omosehin’s residence in Igbekebo, the seat of the state’s Ese-Odo Local Government Area at around 2 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

The kidnappers, numbering about six, arrived in the community by water on a speedboat and dragged the victim from his home.

They left the community on the waiting speedboat to an unknown destination.

A source said the kidnappers contacted his family, demanding the sum of 100 million naira to secure his freedom.

“The incident happened around 2am on Saturday. We called the police immediately after the incident, but by the time the officers arrived at the scene, the kidnappers had taken their victim away. But the kidnappers had spoken with the victim’s family, demanding N100 million in ransom while the family negotiated with the kidnappers,” the source said.

The town’s traditional ruler, Oba Simon Dabo, who confirmed the incident on a radio broadcast, said the victim was allowed to speak with his wife from the kidnapper’s lair.

He called in state security agents to secure the victim’s release.

Ondo State Police Command spokesman SP Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the abduction on Monday, November 21, said efforts were underway to free the victim.

“We are already making efforts to rescue the victim and the investigation has begun,” she said.
