Gunmen kidnap an immigration officer and two others on the Ikom-Calabar highway
Gunmen suspected of being kidnappers abducted Nigeria Immigration Service Deputy Superintendent Imojara Godwin in Cross River State.
Imojara was kidnapped alongside YPP Deputy Governor candidate Prince Agbor and an Egbung Sandra on Thursday afternoon, March 16, 2023, while traveling on the Ikom-Calabar highway to in Ogoja where he was stationed for Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
The immigration officer was among other travelers in a Toyota Corolla vehicle when the kidnappers beat him and took him away with two other people.
It was found that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of 50 million naira before the officer was released.
“An Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI), Imojara Godwin Imojara, was kidnapped in Biase while traveling to Ogoja from Calabar yesterday. He left Calabar at around 3:14 p.m. and was kidnapped at around 3:30 p.m. He was leaving for a special electoral mission,” a source said.
Cross River State Police Command spokeswoman Irene Ugbo confirmed the development, adding that they were working to secure the release of the victims.
“The CP election ordered that drastic measures be taken. It is under development. Let’s hope and pray that before tomorrow (Saturday) everything will be fine. says the PPRO.
