Girl dies of heart attack days after being raped by 49-year-old neighbor

A 49-year-old man, Baba Idi, allegedly raped his neighbour’s daughter, Khadija Adam, in Kano state and threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone, but the girl died a few days later .

The father of the deceased, Adam Muhammad, said his wife found out what happened when she wanted to give their daughter a bath and saw blood coming out of her private parts.

He said; “I was not at home that fateful day. Her mother, while bathing her, saw blood coming out of her body.

“When she asked her what had happened to her, she mentioned our neighbour, Idi, known as Baba Idi.

“She begged her mother not to tell anyone because the suspect threatened to kill her with scissors if she told anyone.

“It is an act of inhumanity for a neighbor to commit this act. All I need is justice,” Adam told reporters Monday, October 3.

He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bompai.

The deceased’s mother, Jamila Adam, is asking for justice.

“After she told me what Baba Idi had done to her, she begged me not to tell anyone because he said he would kill her.

“We were in Bompai for identification. She was so scared when the suspect was taken out of the cell. Immediately after seeing Baba Idi, she started shivering, she became so hysterical and started screaming, calling her name, that he would kill her.

“She was in a lot of pain, her health deteriorated and she continued to call him by his name, Baba Idi. We rushed her to hospital, but she passed away before dying. ‘get there,’” she said.

The mother added that when the doctor examined her they said she had died of a heart attack.
