Four people were killed and three others injured when a car rammed a truck loaded with cement on the Abeokuta-Sagamu highway.
Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) spokesman Babatunde Akinbiyi made this known in a press statement he issued in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, on Friday 18 november.
He said the accident which occurred around 7:18 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2022, involved a Toyota Sienna car registered AAA 307 GN and a Sino truck registered WDL 418 XA.
Mr Akinbiyi blamed the accident on the speeding of the driver of the Toyota Sienna car, coupled with the smoke emitted by the truck, which also had no taillight.
“We learned that the Sienna car entering Abeokuta was driving behind the truck when it hit the truck from behind, due to excessive speed and the driver’s inability to determine that a vehicle was behind. the front, coupled with the smoke emitting from the truck, which also had no taillight.
“All four occupants of the Sienna vehicle lost their lives, the driver escaped without injury. The other three victims were in the truck,” he said.
Mr Akinbiyi said the corpses were deposited at the morgue of Ogun State General Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in the capital for treatment. cared for.
While sympathizing with the families of the deceased victims, the TRACE spokesperson warned operators of articulated vehicles to always make safety their watchword.
