Four Bauchi officials detained for withdrawing money from deceased worker

Bauchi State Police Command arrested four men for alleged forgery and fraud.

This was confirmed in a press release made available to journalists in Bauchi by SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

Wakil said: “On 06/09/2022 at approximately 4:30 p.m., a Samira Jibrin, female, close relative of Jibrin Adamu, male from Zalanga, Ganjuwa LGA, who worked with the State Finance Ministry of Bauchi until her death on 2/12/2021, reported that she went to process her father’s benefits at Bauchi’s Ministry of Finance, but discovered that her late father’s benefits had been processed and withdrawn at the using fake documents by some people.”

The statement added that “Faruq Mohammad Nasiru, a 19-year-old male computer science student from ATAB Abubakar Tatari Polytechnic attached to the Ministry of Finance on industrial attachment, selfishly and ruthlessly falsified documents and accessed the sum of three hundred thirty-two thousand N332,000 naira belonging to the deceased and converted it for their personal use, shared the profit between them.”

The investigation revealed that the said Nasiru Samaila, who used his 17 years of experience with the ministry and conceived the bad idea of ​​falsifying documents to claim the benefits of the deceased at the expense of deserving relatives, got the sum of two one hundred and twelve thousand naira N212,000.00.

All the suspects confessed to playing an active role in the commission of the crime.

One of the suspects, Auwal Jibril, who is also a serving staff member of the said ministry, received the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) as his share, while Tijjani Mohammed, an internet cafe operator, and Faruq Mohammed, a computer science student from the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic attached to the said ministry, obtained the sum of twenty thousand naira (20,000.00 N).

The sum of three hundred and twenty thousand naira N320,000.00 was recovered from the suspects.

The police commissioner ordered the case to be taken to court.
