Former Meta employee reveals she was paid $190,000 a year for doing nothing on Facebook
A former recruiter at tech giant Meta says she misses her job at the company because they paid her $190,000 to “do nothing”.
Maddie Macho, a job influencer and work coach, said she has done almost nothing as an employee of the company, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.
In a TikTok clip, Maddie said: “When I worked at Meta and I was a recruiter and we didn’t have to hire anyone for the first six months, even the first year.
“It’s something they tell you when you start.
“That really blew my mind, I was like, perfect, I’m just gonna do this for a year.”
Maddie explained that she spent that time going through the company’s “thorough” onboarding process.
“We had so many team meetings. Why are we meeting? We are not hiring anyone!
“Also, I was on a team where everyone was new, so none of us were hiring anyone. We were all trying to figure out things that none of us knew the answer to. I was asking my boss and she was like, ‘I don’t know because she was there too.
Maddie added: “I really miss it. I wasn’t doing much. It was good.”
This month, Meta announced 10,000 additional job cuts across the company as well as a freeze on new hiring.
The tech giant, founded by Mark Zuckerberg, laid off an additional 11,000 employees in November.
Zuckerberg said the tough plans are part of a “year of efficiency” at the company, which has seen profits plummet in recent years.
