Footballer collapses and dies on the pitch in Lagos
An as yet unidentified man collapsed and died while playing football at a football pitch in Lekki area, Lagos State.
State Police Command spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident on Monday (October 3rd), said officers from the Moroccan Police Division brought the information on Friday.
He added that the 31-year-old footballer died at around 6.30pm on Friday.
The PPRO said he was rushed to a hospital in Lekki for treatment, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the football scene and the hospital where the corpse was inspected and photographs taken.
“The corpse was deposited in a public morgue for autopsy. In the meantime, an investigation is ongoing,” he said.
Mr Hundeyin advised members of the public, especially sports enthusiasts, not to push their limits.
“When you’re tired, rest. Above all, get regular medical checkups. As they say on the streets, ‘Life has no doubles’,” he added.
