First ladies deserve privileges after leaving office

Outgoing first lady Aisha Buhari said privileges such as provision of vehicles, sponsored medical treatment and provision of certain allowances, among others due to former presidents, should also be extended to the wives of former presidents.

Ms Buhari made the call when she spoke at a book launch in Abuja written by the President of the Association of Defense and Police Women Officers (DEPOWA), Ms Vickie Anwuli Irabor .

Explaining why privileges should be extended to first ladies, Ms Buhari said:

“I married my husband as the wife of a former president. I’m going there in a few days as the wife of a former president for a second time. They should consider us former first ladies. They should integrate the first ladies, give us certain privileges that we deserve as first ladies, not just former presidents”.
