Fired soldier arrested for operating Okada in army uniform in Lagos

Lagos State Police have arrested a 54-year-old fired soldier, Thompson Ogbe, for using his old military uniform to operate as a commercial motorcyclist in the Isolo area of the state.

According to police, Ogbe was fired from the Nigerian Army (NA) for a reason yet to be determined. Police further said the suspect was arrested after receiving reports that many commercial motorcycle riders are now wearing military camouflage to avoid arrest while traveling on restricted routes.

Recall that the state government has banned the activities of commercial motorcycle riders in 10 local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state following the murder of a sound engineer.

In his confessional statement, the discharged soldier said;

“I started working as an Okada pilot to feed my family rather than getting into crime. The uniform is to prevent the kids working as ‘agbero’ from harassing me and asking me for money It was not intended to mislead police officers in road service.
