Filmmaker Seun Egbegbe regains freedom after years in prison
Filmmaker Olajide Kareem, aka Seun Egbegbe, has regained his freedom after spending three years and six months in prison.
The film producer was jailed on February 10, 2017 after he fraudulently obtained N39 million, $90,000 and £12,550 from more than forty money changers in Lagos between 2015 and March 2017.
Egbegbe, who was the boss of Ebony Production, allegedly defrauded BDC operators by claiming he had naira to change into foreign currencies and vice versa.
The Federal High Court in Ikoyi found him guilty on just one of the 44 charges against him.
Judge Oluremi Oguntoyinbo said 43 of the 44 charges were dismissed for lack of witnesses to back up their claims.
Judge Oluremi Oguntoyinbo then sentenced the filmmaker to prison.
After 42 months in prison, Egbegbe was released yesterday October 11, 2022.
