Family demand answers as 29-year-old Kenyan woman jumps to her death from fourth floor balcony after fight with boyfriend
A Kenyan family is demanding answers after a 29-year-old woman jumped from the fourth floor of her flat she shared with her boyfriend in Kasarani, Nairobi.
Brenda Kawira Gitona reportedly fell from the house at 11:30 p.m. on February 21, 2023, after a fight with her boyfriend.
According to her boyfriend, they both moved into the bedroom but her mood changed and she left the room and went to the balcony.
He claimed he later heard a thud. He went to the living room, kitchen and other rooms in the house but his girlfriend was nowhere to be found. He told police that was when he decided to go get her from the balcony and was shocked to see her downstairs.
He rushed downstairs and asked his neighbors for help. The woman was then rushed to Uzima Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police who attended to the hospital found her dead with visible injuries. According to police, the deceased had bruises on her right thigh, neck, left cheek and lower limb. His body has been transferred to Kenyatta University pending autopsy as police investigate.
The man claimed his girlfriend had expressed displeasure with the state of their relationship.
A report released by journalist Simon Mwangi Muthiora on Saturday March 18 says the family are now demanding answers about the circumstances in which the woman died and wonder why police from Kasarani Police Station quickly labeled the death a self-harm . .
The family pointed out that the bruises found on her right thigh, the left side of her neck, her left cheek and her legs are proof that she was murdered.
“We want Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and Inspector General of Police Mr Japheth Koome to help us put his death in the right perspective,” said Josephine Gitonga, the family doctor.
The deceased graduated with a first class degree in medical biochemistry from the University of Nairobi and was due to pursue a master’s degree in Austria in June 2023.
