Edo state government launches investigation into murder of two voters

2023 Elections: Edo State Govt begins probe into killing of two voters

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has revealed that police have opened an investigation into the
murder of two voters in the state in presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday, February 25.

Festus Idahosa, 33, and a 43-year-old mother of three, Mrs. Elizabeth Owie, were killed in an attack on a polling center in Upper Sakpoba Area, Ikpoba Okha Local Government, District Edo South Senatorial.

Obaseki revealed this when he visited the families of the deceased.

“It is very sad because the young man has come to fulfill his responsibility and his civic duties and his life has been cut short due to people’s perception of what power should be,” the governor said.

“It’s sad that this kind of election violence is still happening at this stage of our development. As a government, we would put all measures in place to find the perpetrators and find out what really happened and ensure that the appropriate steps are taken so that we can be brought to justice.

“I have been told the investigation is ongoing but we need to wait a few more days and hear what the police need to say about the incidents.”
