The Governor of the Central Financial institution of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has mentioned that the January 31 deadline for the validity of the previous N200, N500 and N1,000 notes stays and won’t be shifted for something on the planet.

Emefiele made the announcement after the apex financial institution’s Financial Coverage Committee (MPC) assembly in Abuja on Tuesday, January 24.

Talking on the assembly, Emefiele mentioned that kidnappings and ransom calls for have decreased for the reason that redesign of the three tickets. He mentioned the time given for exchanging previous naira notes with new ones needs to be sufficient for Nigerians to go to industrial banks and get new notes.

”I’ve to say that sadly I haven’t got excellent news for individuals who suppose we must always transfer the deadline, my apologies.

The reason being that 90 days (we expect it is 100 days) needs to be sufficient for individuals who have the previous foreign money to deposit it within the banks,’ he mentioned.

Recall that on October 26, 2022, the apex financial institution introduced its challenge to revamp the three banknotes. President Buhari then unveiled the redesigned N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes on November 23, 2022, whereas the apex financial institution set January 31 because the expiry date for the previous banknotes.
