The Cross River government has announced a ban on ongoing illegal mining activities in the state, particularly in the local government areas of Biase and Akamkpa.
This was conveyed in a statement issued Thursday, November 17 by the Permanent Secretary for Special Services, Governor’s Office, Dr. Alfred Mboto.
Mboto said the ban has become necessary because illegal activities pose a threat to the safety and security of local government areas.
The statement read in part;
“Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River immediately banned all illegal mining activities in the state.
“Security agencies have been instructed to seal off all illegal mining sites and to arrest and prosecute all illegal mining companies and persons involved in illegal activities.”
